Horticulture is the science and art of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. It includes the cultivation of plants for food, medicine, or aesthetic purposes. Horticulturists often work in greenhouses, nurseries, or gardens. They may also work in parks or other public spaces. Horticulture can be divided into three main categories: vegetable horticulture, fruit horticulture, and flower horticulture. Each of these categories has its own subfields, including greenhouse production, nursery production, and landscape horticulture. Horticulturists may also specialize in one or more types of plants.
